My Second Year Trying a Garden

Some nights, when I finally lay down, the mom guilt hits hard. Guilt for not spending enough one-on-one time. Guilt for snapping after asking D—for the eighth time—to put on his shoes so we’re not late. Guilt for not working out. Guilt for working out. Guilt for the less-than-healthy dinner and the never-ending to-do list.

Last year’s guilt had a new twist: my first garden totally flopped. I started seeds but never followed through on transplanting them before they died. This year, I tried again—and brought D into it. He loves chips and salsa, so I told him we’d grow tomatoes and peppers and make our own. He was all in.

And then… most of our seeds didn’t sprout. Pivot time. We bought starter plants for one bed, and I’m experimenting with a mix of seeds and starters in the other. I want to learn, and the only way is by trying, failing, and trying again.

If you want the specifics—what we bought and how we laid out each bed—head to my Instagram garden highlight. I’m using Instagram to keep me accountable to simple, healthy rhythms: watering daily, stepping outside, and taking five quiet minutes in nature.

Oh, what a beautiful day.
